September flew by so quickly, we haven’t had the chance to update in such a long time! Which, in a way is good, because that means we have been busy! The school year has started with a lot of hustlin’ and bustlin’ in Boulder. It’s always exciting to be in a college town at the beginning of the school: freshman walking around campus, professors gearing up for their students…. Don’t you just love autumn?

Meanwhile, we have been cranking all sorts of amazing work out for our wonderful customers. They always surprise us with their creativity and eye for design—Boulder sure is filled with some impressive people. Ubooly, one of our coolest tech customers, received an awe-inspiring amount of seed funding to help them make their way in the growing world of digital toys. Way to go! We also had the opportunity to meet Marty Brodsky, the creator of Vim Loft, a cool co-working space out in Gunbarrel. Check out his side project, an online magazine that focuses on adventures, Expedition Underground here.

Hi everyone!

My name is Elena and I have been interning at Eight Days a Week this summer. I just wanted to let you all know what I have been experiencing and what a great time I’ve been having here. Spending my time mostly behind the front counter I get to see all of your smiling and sometimes not-so-smiling faces coming in, and have had the pleasure of meeting many of you. Between the last minute jobs and the 3rd time proofs, our staff members have to show plenty of patience sometimes and yet genuinely never lose their desire to help you get the best result. I’ve seen many of interesting projects and community events come through this store. Bold Doors, Truck-It events, and Race Across America, just to name a few. Also, I have gotten to look up to the owners, Sam and Cheryl, because of their generosity and involvement in the community. The list of organizations they sponsor and volunteer at goes on for longer than I would ever have expected. I’ve had a lot of laughs here with the lovely staff and as my last days here are coming up I would like to leave my word of recommendation for you. When you come into Eight Days a Week get to know the people you are working with. I think you will find some of the friendliest people and brightest personalities. I hope you enjoy your next visit and have a great rest of your summer!

I, the voice of Eight Days a Week (a title I most definitely gave myself), have decided that this blog needs a makeover. Both a physical one and a content one. I have been perusing cyberspace for inspiration. Blogs that we love, all things creative…. I decided that posting more often is a must. I know what you are thinking: duh, it’s been about a month since our last Eight Days update. But its hard to keep up the blog when I am not really sure what it’s supposed to be telling the world about our company. So far I have felt like this would be the perfect place to show off some of our favorite print jobs of the week, an installment I am not sure people are really interested in, but it has been the easiest to execute because we get to do some really cool printing for the Boulder business community. However, the rest of the week is filled with silence. And for that, I am sorry.

So, after today, I pledge to post more often, with more diverse content–even if I just want to share a funny story or gripe with you. If you want me to talk about your company or give you a shout out, email me! I will happily tell the world (or its small population that reads this blog) about your cool/new/can’t-live-without-product! After all, what we really care about at Eight Days are our customers. We really do want you to put your best foot forward and that’s why we are still around.

Well, here it is! We have finally made it to number 11 (which get’s us over that 10th speed bump!) Personally, I am super proud of us for sticking to this blog thing. So far we don’t have any comments but I have a feeling you guys are reading and hopefully enjoying what we have to say Our favorite posts have been our Friday round ups. What have yours been? Is there anything in particular you would want to see featured on here? Please let us know and we will try and feature your business or creative idea.

While you are thinking about that for a little we wanted to tell you about some fun stuff that has been happening around Boulder this week. Turns out this great city is one of the most creative cities in the U.S. According to this US news report. (sweet) Of course we are extremely thankful for our firefighters! We all know how dangerously close we came to having the Flagstaff fire burn some Boulder homes. On that note, I don’t know about you but we are a little bummed we can’t have any fireworks this year because of all this dry heat (but we get it).

Hope you all have an awesome weekend! And while you are on your way to relaxation town check out these cool prints we did this week for some of our favorite customers.

Did you know that we can print these metal signs? This one is outside of Jill’s Restaurant at the St. Julien. It is completely weather proof and was printed using latex inks from our HP oversize printer.

One of our favorite things about being in Downtown Boulder is having the opportunity to meet artists. This week we met Kare Strong, a Portland Oregon artist who is reproducing her artwork with us . She will have a booth at an art market up in Portland and will be selling these colorful cards that we printed for her.

Did you know we print wedding invitations? Well, we do. Here are some fabulous invites for a customer we just printed up. They are so cute and really scream mountain living to us.

We are so excited for this weekend—how about you guys? It’s been a long week here at Eight Days, and as per usual, we are trying our hardest to get our rush-jobs out the door for our favorite customers. As much as we love all of you (and if you’re reading this, we definitely love you!) sometimes completing rush jobs can be can be very stressful!

Now, don’t get us wrong, we LOVE being here for our customers. It’s just that we aren’t sure how so many customers can forget that they are getting married this weekend, or that the conference is in three hours. Now those of you out there who happen to be a little absentminded from time to time: we aren’t holding any grudges. We just happen to have more rush last minute orders this week than usual. Thanks for listening!

Now that we have chewed your ears off (or eyes out?) with too much information, here are some of our favorite projects from the week:

Check out these sweet (and adorable) stickers we had printed for Growing Gardens. What an awesome organization, by the way. These particular stickers will be going on produce from the Children’s Peace Garden, cultivated by children ages 4-10. What an awe-inspiring way to teach your kids the importance of locally grown produce!

These metallic Bar Mitzvah Save The Dates for twin boys are perfectly tween. We love the design made by a long time friend and graphic designer of ours Lauren Davis. If you like her designs get in touch with us and we will get you her information.

Have you ever been the The Sun Deli? They are a 24 hr deli and market that delivers!! We like these bumper stickers they created. Not quite sure about any copyright infringement they may be violating, but these stickers sure are rad.

Since we opened in 1975 we figure we have printed roughly 9 million business cards—260,000 cards per year—,which is a whole lot of contact information. Most tech companies in Boulder are building their brand and client base by meeting others at trade shows, meet-ups, and happy hours. New technology has caused a lot of print shops to close forever. Yet here at our shop we have never had more requests for business cards. People are recognizing the importance of a physical reminder that you have met them. It’s a perfect chance to make a great first impression. There is nothing worse then going to your first meeting or running into a potential client and not having anything with your information to give them. It’s your new baby in words on 2 x 3.5 inches of card stock.

We have found that our clients really enjoy being able to come into our shop and go over their options. We offer a wide range of card stock selections. We have in house graphic designers that bring your ideas to life. We also have print specialists that have been working with digital printers for over a decade. That means we really know our color and print technologies. But really all of that is not important, where ever you decide to print your cards the important thing is that you get them out for potential and existing clients of yours.

(Not-so-spoiler alert: you’ll want it for your business!) In the meantime, we have been thinking a lot about start-ups. We wanted to launch a new weekly blog write-up on Wednesdays “Start-up Wednesdays.” (Genius title, we know….) Even though we had high hopes of writing here more than once a week, our busy schedule has made it difficult for us to blog as much as we would like. We figure that having a set goal and topic to talk about will give us—and you—the motivation to come here more regularly. So, make sure to check back next Wednesday when we explore the importance of business cards, why you need them, and why you want us to print them for you. It is surely a read not to be missed.

In the meantime, we have been-super busy over here at 9th and Pearl, printing lots of different projects for some of our favorite customers. Check out these prints we brought to life this week. We are really proud of our machines and their high quality out-put.

1.BOLD Doors will soon be found all over Boulder. (including your favorite local print shop Bold Doors is a community based art exhibit brought to you by the Center for Resource Conservation. Check out their website here to find out more information on where to find your favorite Boulder artist’s door.

2.We are excited about this job we did for The University of Colorado working with the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force. They are a multi-jurisdictional collaborative effort between 16 states and provinces that focuses on the development of rules and capabilities necessary to generate compliance-grade assets from Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation.

3.To say that we love JJ Sweets would be an understatement. They are the best!! We also love helping them with their ingredients labels and these cool hang tags for retail stores.

4.We printed these 2013 wholesale merchandise catalogs for SCARPA. I wish we could show you what they had in store for next year, but we can’t so you will just have to wait.

MIA in May. Where has the time gone? May has come and gone, and not a peep from Eight Days…. Sorry about that, guys. We have been ridiculously busy, printing lots of business cards, brochures, banners, and much more for the Front Range area. But mainly I, your (trusted!) Eight Days a Week liaison, have been out of town. I hope you don’t mind if I get a little personal, but I have hit that age, folks–Yup, the one in which everyone I know if getting married! I think from here on out ’till I am thirty-five I will be a busy girl. But, it’s nice to work here and be able to help my friends with all of their save-the-dates, invites, and thank-you cards.

Other than flying out of DIA four times in one month, I have been busy at Eight Days helping loads of people get ready for the Boulder Creek Fest and the Farmers’ Market. Isn’t spring in Boulder just amazing?!Speaking of which, there are some great events coming up this summer, and we have been helping our clients gear up for them. Here are some fun Boulder outings to check out:

1. We will try to make it to at least one of these ten Band on the Bricks concerts. We absolutely LOVE their printed schedules! Look for one all over downtown Boulder to check out their schedule… or follow this link to their webpage.

2.You guys should definitely attend Truck-it Boulder! It will be an awesome event organized by The Tasterie Truck and Parenting Place. All beverage proceeds will be given to Parenting Place and there will be a ton of Boulder’s famous food trucks there.

3.We love new restaurants! Make sure to check out T/aco (pronounced Tay-aco) this weekend. They are having their grand opening special: two tacos and a beer for $7.50. That’s quite a deal!!!

Too much money for our bones! But, we have been thinking: why have this … Continue reading »

The story, of course, is 4/20—or what we like to call “National Stoner Awareness Day.” The University of Colorado is closing campus with the threat of fining you up to $750 if you are caught galavanting on campus. Too much money for our bones!

But, we have been thinking: why have this silly day overshadow a the other really cool stuff that’s going down this weekend? We thought we would share with you some of the events we think you should check out instead of NSAD. It just so happens that we got to print some pretty cool stuff for each as well.

1. I think a lot of you would be surprised to find out that Bart’s CD Shack is in fact still around! Check out these cool stickers we printed for National Music Store Day. They will be celebrating with a couple of live bands over the weekend including our very own Terry Kishiyama’s (our Head Designer) band Interstate Stash Express.

2. Have you been to the Longmont Farmers’ Market yet this season? If you take our advice and go this weekend, check out La Cruz’s Specialty Foods. You can only get their crazy good jams, chutneys, and spreads there! You will not be disappointed. It was a pleasure dealing with the owner, Gloria, while producing their labels

3. It’s Taste of Pearl on Sunday in and around downtown Boulder. Sorry folks, this one is already sold out so if you don’t have a ticket yet, you’re out of luck. This event takes place at different shops on Pearl Street. Each destination will feature different foods and wines from Boulder restaurants. It’s a great event, and a portion of proceeds are donated to EFAA. We printed this last minute* eco-conciuous banner for the Pedestrian Shop on our new machine. Check back Monday to learn all about our printer, which uses smart beads for ink…. Think oversize color printing for less than you expected.

That’s all… nope:

-The Earth Day 5k

-Obama’s speaking at CU, are you going to get your ticket?

-The Motet at the Boulder Theater

*but for realsies-reals, we were running around the shop like crazy getting this stuff out….
